The Full Story

TeamMcGrath consists of Bobby and Tammy McGrath, a husband and wife duo who started dating back in 2019, got married in 2022 but known each other for well over 30 years as Bobby was childhood friends with Tammy's younger brother!

Back in 2021 we decided to start traveling together, between us we had only been to one or two countries and during the pandemic we vowed that we would see the world together once it was all over as we had a renewed appreciation for life having been cooped in for almost half the year!

And so it all began in July 2021 when we visited Prague, we did not vlog nor have any plans to do so...but we did have plans to visit more countries...but were hit with another lock-down and a wedding to save for, so we had to postpone it for a few more years!

Once we were married we decided to have our honeymoon somewhere a little different...we went to Budapest in Hungary, not the conventional choice we know, but we love history and old buildings and were interested in the food and culture, so it seemed like a logical choice, after this we took our kids to Kos in Greece and THAT was an experience...you see we didn't stay in the heart of the island but stayed in a little place called Antimachia (which is where the airport is) thinking it would be closer to the town of Kos than it actually was, it was there that we found ourselves staying in a place with Cockerels and Goats roaming around and very few people could speak English (it was a lot of older people living in the area)...to say it was not your normal holiday experience would be an under-exaggeration to say the least!

Back home after the trip we found ourselves watching YouTube vlogging couples channels we felt disillusioned as it was all very touristy and lacked any real raw energy and to be honest we felt it was a little cheesy and over produced for our own tastes.

We were fans of the likes of Bald and Bankrupt, Backpacker Ben, Marco Roams, André Traveler, Harald Baldr and the older Simon Wilson videos at the time, yet we couldn't find many YouTubers who were a couple/not solo travelers creating this type of raw vlogging content without the cheesy stock music, stock drone footage of beautiful beach or showing nothing but positive experiences and not showing the reality of travel (which let's face it, can suck sometimes!).

Of course, we knew the market was saturated with vloggers not doing that kind of stuff (like the aforementioned ones) but there were very few couples channels who were doing this kind of content, and so we set out to create our own channel where we would capture the moment without the cheesy music and over-glorification of places for the sake of winning over a few more viewers and likes.

We booked our first trip to Kraków and despite it being touristy we wanted to capture it in a rawer form than most. We lacked experience, proper recording equipment or a real vision of what we wanted to do but made a vow to make each video better than the next. We also made a promise to learn Polish too as we wanted to remove the stigma that the British were lazy at learning languages, and this is something which we have done consistently in every place we have visited, no matter how difficult the language is!

The trip to Poland was a great experience and a good way to learn what we did and didn't want to do and became our new obsession! We soon booked a trip to Croatia and brought a new camera (a DJI Pocket 2) which we used to capture our trip to Split, Dubrovnik as well as getting a bus over to Mostar in Bosnia too.

The video quality from these places wasn't great as we didn't know how to use the camera, so we studied filming techniques, colour grading and audio mastering over the past year and on our return trip to Poland we had ironed out a lot of the issues that we had during that trip.

We also realised just how underrepresented the UK was on YouTube so set out to prove that the UK was a great place to explore too, so included UK content on our channel too, making sure to do cool things such as wild camping and staying in places that are a little more obscure and unique.

We have continued to work on making the videos better and it was in Lithuania that we decided to change our vlogging style to be more interactive and raw as we had a lot more cuts between shots and realised that we preferred the one take style shots so started incorporating that into our channel too.

The goal is to see unique places and capture experiences that few couples YouTube channels do these days, we hope you enjoy our content and hopefully its a breath of fresh air amongst the sea of cookie cutter couples YouTube vlogging channels!
